I agree with all the above! Muvizu is my first venture into 3d animating- I have some experience in stop motion plasticine workng with kids, and in drawing my own 2d cartoon strips. After gingerly poking my nose into maya and such like I realised what is so good about Muvizu- it's a brilliantly quick and transparent tool for getting the products of the imagination up and running while they are still hot. In other words I find the story and ideas drive it- rather than getting bogged down in 3d vector creation, mapping and all that. An analogy would be the difference between the detailing of high art painters and the speed and movement of the impressionists. Only an analogy, no pretensions to high art here! It's brilliant and I look forwards to seeing it develop.

Kaynine wrote:

A fascinating and fabulous piece of software which lets folks concentrate on storytelling and direction rather than upon the technicalities of modelling and rendering their characters, scenery, objects etc. Users clearly have their own preferences and dislikes, but that applies to all software - and pretty well everything lin life. Personally, I find the audio import system limiting and difficult, but many others seem to like it. Some shy away from the idea of working with a finite range of assigned movements, but when you consider the complexity of trying to animate everything yourself from scratch, I feel that the Muvizu solution is incredibly satisfying and is MUCH more versatile than you might expect. The decision to opt for cartoon-style animation rather than unrealistic human characters is a stroke of near genius and helps to make Muvizu pretty well unique in the field of 3d animation. In short - Muvizu offers users the chance to make fully professional-looking animations which can be as simple or complex as imagination allows. It is mostly very intuitive and knocks the majority of much-hyped machinima software into the long grass. First rate and getting better all the time. It's also worth mentioning the receptivity and responsiveness of the development team - they really do seem to listen to user's comments, compliments and gripes.

I very much agree.

Brilliant! So easy to use with fantastic results! The props are cartoony, the physics is great as is the lighting, the seperate animations are really smooth and the chracter customisation possibilties are endless.

But, I have to agree with Than, that resizing objects can be a bit tricky, not being able to edit height/width seperatley. Also positioning objects can be a bit fiddly, but on the whole, I think it's great! I will certianly be using this program for a while and tops the old one I was using by miles!

I have also used other products, but Muvizu gives the ability to create quicker, much quicker and the results look very professional. The development team seem to be positive to improve it.

The lighting and effects are fabulous, probably because it uses the unreal engine.

However it could do with some simple enhancements like the option of scaling objects by length, width or height dimensions separately rather always applying the scaling on all 3 dimensions. But as the team seem receptive to enhancement suggestions then i'm sure these things will come in time.

Overall this is a really fab product and I will be using it a lot.
edited by Than on 8/11/2010

I completely agree with Mysto and CivicByNature ;
I've used many animation and software packages over the years (reaching back to the days of ye olde ZX128k...) - And Muvizu hit me the same way that Google Sketchup hit me. Revolutionary.

It's very easy to use, fairly intuitive user interface, deceptively simplistic (deceptive, because the overall "feel" is simple, yet it's incredibly powerful).
You can drop items into a blank space and be animating them literally within seconds, couple that fact with the wealth of detailed and in-depth tutorials and you've got a really good basis to start making your own animated movies. The library of pre-set moves for each type of character (male/female/robot/blob etc) could be improved and added to, however at the moment it covers a very broad range of expressive gestures which can be combined with audio to produce pretty good effects.

It has other benefits such as helping animators with real-world physical stop-frame animation ; For example, setting up a scene with a standard character, have them timed and synchronised with some desired audio, and performing a complex gesture. You can then view the rendered output on a frame by frame basis and use the movements to help with the physical movement of your clay/plastercine/etc model.

The community is still very much a fledgling community at the moment, but I imagine that once Muvizu gets a little more exposure, things will be rocking.

I personally believe this to be one of the best pieces of software I've used in a long, long time. The most difficult thing about using Muvizu is deciding on what type of animation you want to make!

Briliant
edited by KiltedNinja on 8/2/2010

I have been doing computer animation for about 20 years and I must say that this program is very impressive. It is fairly easy to understand and use and one can "get down to business" within a matter of minutes. I have been using the program for about a week now and am very impressed with the results thus far. There are enough options to keep ones imagination and talents working for a long time. I am looking forward to seeing this program grow and expand.

I've used just about every 2d and 3d animation package available and I plan on using Muvizo a lot. I hope this project continues to grow and expand.

In one word, "Revolutionary" Tho still in it's infancy. It's growing up more every day. Having worked with many other 3d software for years. Muvizu is great for getting projects and proof of concepts out the door easily and quickly. With Muvizu you don't have to worry about design right away and can get straight in to the action!!
