The adjustment to facial details would be a great start. However, ultimately I think a separate category for characters with the 'air' of realism would be perfect.

This would give greater range to the genres Muvizu could cover, and shoulder the filmmaking tempest off the pitch.

I think you've got a good point on mismatching characters, but hopefully people would pick appropriate characters for their genre. Also, they could be listed in separate categories like the sets in Muvizu are.
_
edited by inlimbo on 9/27/2010

I agree that making characters too realistic result in the creepiness factor of The Polar Express. In fact some of Muvizu's competitors have a realistic look to their characters that may be a handicap for them.

However, is Muvizu considering making some characters a little more realistic? Certainly some of the characters in Pixar's The Incredibles are cartoonish while still suggesting realism.

Hi again Alan,

I haven't seen Despicable Me - I might have to give it a try.

Those formats are made by various 3D model programmes - you can pick up Google Sketchup for free and it can make simple models that can be converted to .ase using a plugin.

Alternatively, there are many, many sources of 3D models available on the Net that you could download a model from then use it in Muvizu.

Take care,
-Jim.

Hi Kaynine, thanks for trying Muvizu out.

I am glad you like the stylised cartoon style -personally I feel that it makes more sense as the more realistic you try to make something the less real it seems due to the uncanny valley effect (which I assume is the reason that Pixar humans are still cartoonish despite them having the technology to have very, very realistic humans)

We are looking at subtitles for the Tutorials, but unfortunately the YouTube subtitle technology doesn't recognise Scottish accents so they will need to be done manually.

Being able to download the Tutorials does make sense - I will pass on the suggestion.

The character editing is being expanded upon, and the devs are working on importing Objects - .ase format first with the aim of adding .fbx and COLLADA at a later date. They may add character model and attachment importing later, but they are only working on Objects at the moment.

Any feedback and suggestions are welcome, and if you have any trouble just post in one of the help sections - we try to answer any tech problems as quickly as we can.

-Jim.
