update: Just messed about with i-movie again. Thought I had a brain wave moment....I created a blank .png in my copy of photoshop. Used this as a background in i-movie and brought in my animation done in Cheetah 3d. Seemed to work OK on the Mac but by the time I got it into Muvizu (after altering it in Virtualdub to an avi file) the transparency had gone. Maybe I hadn't got it right in i-movie so I'll give it another shot.

Hi again Toonarama. When I retired I got myself an i mac and, as the mac won't take windows software (unless I use a partition) I bought a copy of a 3d software called 'Cheetah 3D'. I've got kinda used to making models in this and the texturing (UV mapping) and animation is really simple but powerful. I've done a simple animation of a horse with it's tail swinging and have been experimenting bringing the model from Cheetah (mac) into windows 8, which is where I have Muvizu. I would love to get this animation into Muvizu but, like you, have found this to be difficult. I've found that i-movie(mac) will let me do green/blue screen BUT, you have to have a picture in the background which is not what I want..... incidentally, I can and have brought a horse model into Muvizu as a static object but of course... it's static!

Sonofkong
The actual animations were created in either Muvizu or Iclone against a solid green background.
I then used Sony Moviestudio to turn it into a an uncompressed AVI with transparency but there are free video tools (such as virtualdub) which allow you to do this too.
However I think you will be facing an uphill task trying to have horses in Muvizu as you will need to be able to animate the horse to start with in some other software. I think you can animate in the free DAZ but I have not tried it and there is also Blender I guess. Another alternative would be to do everything in Iclone but, beware, this is an expensive route to take.
Mick

Hi Toonarama. What software did you use to capture your .avi????? Is there a tutorial that would recommend to help me get my head around this one? I'm into Westerns, and, as Muvizu does'nt do four legged creatures. ie horses. I was hoping to add these (the horses) contained in an avi. That's why the area around the horse needs to be transparent?

sonofkong
Yes I have done it on a number of occasions (albeit with previous versions)
and as far as I remember you have to export it as an uncompressed avi or it
won't work. I used for the crowd in this video

Greetings All. Thanks for the replies. There is a tutorial on this forum dealing with using transparencies, I have used this one cos' I did have to edit the config file like you suggest. I have it in my head that to have a transparent (animated) image you would have to use a 'blue screen'. (or green). I was hoping for some guidance on this as it's a new area for me and I don't want to mess up Muvizu by maybe changing the wrong thing, especially when messing in the config file. I guess I'm asking if any one HAS imported an avi WITH blue/green screen successfully into Muvizu?

Hi All. Has anyone been able to bring an .avi video into Muvizu that has the background rendered transparent (with the model the only thing visable). I'm trying to do an animation in a 3d program and import it as .avi. I can do it if it loaded as .png but png doesn't seem to allow for animation, just still shots. I'm using Cheetah 3d which is a MAC application, Muvizu doesn't mind this as I'm still able to import the models as .ase via Milkshape 3D.
