Hello and welcome to muvizu zeke, Im a moderate animator, and from my experiences from other software's muvizu is the most easiest and cheapest way you can go, I mostly dropped all the other software's and stuck with this, a lot of animation is done for you, all you have to do is direct it, and if you want to do your own movements in animation, muvizu has a feature called Key Frame so you can create your own movements and it's easy to use, not just that you have a wonderful community here that's friendly and helpful, you get stuck with something or need help with a prop, or a character are whatever the case maybe then me and my fellow muvizuer's or here to help, and if you have any doubt about muvizu then take a look at the gallery and watch what muvizu can do!

Enjoy your stay!

Clayster2012.
edited by clayster2012 on 11/09/2016
edited by clayster2012 on 11/09/2016

Check out the free sets in the user section of the store... you could make a lot of stories with these sets and go for a long time without ever having to build your own set!

I look forward to seeing your first video. If you come up with something before next Sunday at midnight GMT, you can enter it in our end of summer contest. There are multiple prizes awarded just for submitting something... and more if you win!

Layers. Ever since Muvizu introduced layers the possibilities have opened up tremendously. You still need a decent editor though, and Hitfilm Express is free and very good.

I initially was frustrated by limitations in the software but there are workarounds, creative problem solving tips and a good forum on here.. It actually gets to a stage for me now where it feels like there are overwhelming amounts of options (which is great!!!)

Welcome to Muvizu!
Here's a very quick overview:
Pros:

Free/very low cost compared to other similar software

Easy (It fits the old slogan perfectly: Direct, don't animate)

Fast to animate (Which is good for quick silly sketches, although there are actually some feature length films in the works)

Great community support for how-to guides etc and very good tech support from the staff

Cons:

Updates aren't as frequent as you might expect since there is only a small team of developers

Sometimes bugs are introduced with newer versions so it's best to install the new version separately and test it before moving your sets over.

You're limited to the cartoony characters that come with Muvizu

When importing objects, Muvizu tends to be a bit picky about the formats, collision, and complexity.

Muvizu uses the Unreal 3 engine underneath, so if you don't have a reasonably powerful graphics card then you might run in to lag here and there.

I think that's covered the main points.

In terms of learning how to use Muvizu, check out:
The tutorials: http://www.muvizu.com/Tutorials
The wiki: http://www.muvizu.com/Wiki
And other posts here on the forum.
If you can't find an answer to your problems in any of these places, then we're happy to help out. Just post your questions on the forum!

Hello Zeke, please put all those worms back in the can

Pros are simple enough - it's relatively easy to use, you can make as complex a set as you like, there's unlimited lights, rendering out is easy, and it's cheap.

Cons - The animations are fixed, so you can't create your own. The characters are flexible up to a point, but you can't import your own. Although you can import FBX files, the importer is limited (to say the least).

Depends what you want to do, and how much time you want to devote to doing it.

I have making movies with The Movies game and was looking for something similar to The Movies games (with stunts and effects) that had a little more features yet was simple to use. I came across your site by one the TMU community recommendations for alternative software.
I have tried trials of both iclone and Moviestorm but found them to be too complex for a new user. Then I downloaded a trial version of this site and found it very similar to what I m used to, and simple enough to use yet a lot can be done with it.

The only question I have is what are the pros and cons to the software.
