He also looks like the guy in the old silent movies who'd be voted "most likely to to tie up a damsel and put her on the railroad tracks in front of an oncoming locomotive"

The ladies in bonnets should be concerned. ;-)

Long Dresses, No Slit well... except for the top hat and vest, the gentlemen are composed of stock Muvizu items that everybody already has. The only value I added was to dress 'em up and stand 'em beside the ladies.

But I see your point. I might include them later in a set of American Civil War era characters I'm already working on. I just wanted to post these now for the sake of those with works in process. When I do, I'll probably make my own top hat because of the implications of posting one that somebody else made. Maybe a stovepipe hat like Abe Lincoln wore...

(Are you unable to DL the sets from dropbox?)

Long Dresses, No Slit link to the set shown in the message above:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/o8pmwnuv5q464v9/1800s_Characters.set?dl=0

It will remain active briefly, then get deleted. Neither set will go to the store.
The top hat came from the store, (I didn't make it) but at present I can't remember who make it. It was one of the Moguls. If I remember or if I can find it in the store, I'll edit this post to credit the creator.

UPDATE 1: I just looked thru everything in the store, and unless I just glossed over it, I didn't see the Top Hat. I don't know whether as new items get added, old items get removed or what. I know it was there at some point in the past year. If anybody remembers who made it, please let me know so I can make a note of it for future reference.

UPDATE 2
here's a link to the textures and texture maps used to make the skirt, hat and brooch:

Those look great, PMC! Maybe post 'em here for free for a day or so, then put 'em in the store. Much as we all love free stuff, these are work to create.

Thanks for the kind words, Mindiflyth! Anybody who wants this should get it now, because I probably won't put this in the store, even for free. At least anybody reading this thread knows that I'm not making a claim that a stiff skirt will work in more than a very limited application...

but once its in the store and somebody downloads it a year from now with no hint about the special request and circumstances, I'll just be setting myself up for a bunch of hate replies about how it sucks and doesn't work. I don't mind using the limited time I have left on the planet to make stuff and give it away, but it would bother me to give it away and then start getting negative posts under the store item.

It always blows my mind that people will actually complain about stuff they get for free. In fact, it blows my mind that people will complain about Muvizu, which offers capability very similar to programs that cost MUCH more, yet is so inexpensive that it's practically shareware.

Long Dresses, No Slit before I put a lot of work into this, here is a screen save of one outfit. When the character is at rest, the hands are inside the skirt, and many poses cause the legs to come out of the skirt. I will also add a link to the set so you can DL it and play with it to see if it will work

I think you'll find that it has limited usefulness, and I have mixed feelings about spending the time necessary to make whole set of characters with limited application. Please try it and let me know your thoughts

Long Dresses, No Slit one thing I can't do is make the puffy sleeves... there's no way to make sleeves and pantlegs follow the angles created when arms and legs bend. That's why clothing in this environment is painted onto skins that lie directly on the character's surface.

Long Dresses, No Slit I'll make sure the set contains a top hat!

Long Dresses, No Slit in order to help me avoid working on the wrong characters, it would be helpful if you'd isolate specific characters to recreate.

Online Sets maybe the online sets were physically relocated when the User Assets store was introduced, and the link in Muvizu was never updated to match the new location?

I can't speak from experience because I've never tried to load a set from the web. Anybody else out there who can comment on the topic from experience?

I just tried this, and it worked for me

Long Dresses, No Slit making characters like this would require attachments to simulate the baggy clothes.... but here's the problem you'll have with them:

The characters' arm and leg movements will intersect with the baggy clothes. When the women walk, their legs will extend past their skirts. When ankles bend , the legs will intersect with the tops of high boots.

In order to make it work, you'd have to frame shots so the intersections aren't facing the camera, or they'
ll be really obvious. Scenes where the characters are not walking or moving their arms much will be your best bet

If you wanted to make posed shots without much/any movement, yes, it would be totally possible

I may go ahead an make a set of such characters and post it to the store because I have plans for an American civil war story, which could use the period outfits

WHERE ARE YOU? I'm really enjoying these "WHERE I AM" updates... we need to set up one of those world maps with pins to represent the location of forum members. Anybody know how to do that?

WHERE ARE YOU? I'm posting this as a way to get a bird's eye view of Muvizu's demographic. I suspect its customer base is pretty large and spread out all over the world. So, tell us where you live! Don't get so specific that stalkers can track you down... but it would be interesting to see peoples' locations within a general region.

It would also be interesting to see what kind of people gravitate toward Muvizu... so if you have other hobbies, let us know what you love to do with your spare time!

I'm located in the state of North Carolina in the USA. Besides playing with Muvizu I also use other animation software, I enjoy 3d modelling and I also play guitar and have a small home studio for recording music.

How about you? ;-)

Online Sets I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to do. Are you trying to load the sets directly from the internet? Or are you downloading them them first and then trying to load them into Muvizu from your hard drive?

It would be great if someone wrote 'scripts' for Poser characters which you could apply to your own characters.

The rigged characters that come with poser do have predefined poses/actions that can be dragged onto them from a library. You can save your own poses and actions and add them to the library.
2016/12/1 1:08:23
sale on Silo 2.3.1 None of the animation programs out there really make you animate from scratch these days... they all have a proprietary shortcut. Poser works just like Muvizu keyframing on steroids. You pose the character, move the timeline ahead a bit, repose the character, and Poser automatically generates all the moves between poses. Not only does it not take that long, you can create ANY action that can be posed.. you aren't limited by whether or not there is a predefined action that meets your needs. The main objection to Poser is the cost. It ain't a cheap program.

sale on Silo 2.3.1 these characters are just muvizu potato heads with Silo-modelled attachments wrapped around them:

Ikes created some birds, a T-Rex, a chicken and a gator the same way, but at the moment mt WIFI is acting up and I can't stay connected long enough to find the videos. Maybe he'll see this and post links.

My point is that modelling new heads and bodies is the closest we can come to creating custom characters... and in order to do that, you need something like Silo or another modelling program
