Some kids would only speak very quietly, or with long pauses, or needed lots of prompting. Sometimes I would leave them alone recorder running and say, do it as many times as you like, till you are happy you have got the words right. Afterwards I would edit out all the false starts, umms and mistakes. Its amazing what can be done like this, sometimes even with kids with quite sever speech impediments.
