I figure I might as well get my tools together for when I have enough time to really get into them. Do you think this is a good idea? This is the debut one and the physical copy is $49 US. If I am thinking of getting another computer in the near future this would probably be the right choice? Yes that was a question. I have until May 11 to order so will wait to see if anyone replies, but if not I will go with the physical one.

I wonder what the difference is (other than $450) between the debut and pro? Right now the debut sort of fits my not planned for budget.

Just a heads up for the benefit of anyone who might be interested in adding some new tools to their animation toolbox without spending a lot of money.

Anime Studio 11 is having a sale on ASP11 Debut, their entry-level product. Even though it is their least expensive product, it is still quite powerful in my opinion.. and it gives you a way to animate the occasional scenes that would be impossible with Muvizu.

For example, you can take a screen shot of the characters in your Muvizu project and then rig them for ASP11. Once you have them rigged, you can make them do anything.

Oh, and even though it is touted as a 2-D animation solution, ASP11 is fully compatible with 3d objects... so you can import the same props you're using in Muvizu if you have the OBJ files. If not, just import a screenshot of your Muvizu scene as a 2-D graphic and put it on a background

the link to the latest sale: http://my.smithmicro.com/anime-studio-debut.html

$35 USD until Feb 16

Clam wrote:

Thanks PatMarrNC. Good timing. I looked at Anime Studio just a couple of days ago but at $299 it was too expensive and the cheaper version didn't have all I wanted. Purchased today at $99.

Awesome! I originally wanted to buy ToonBoom Studio (recently renamed to Harmony)... but check out THEIR prices: https://www.toonboom.com/products/harmony/pricing

I think the features in ASP11 compare favorably to those in HARMONY... at a fraction of the list price... even more so at Cyber Monday prices!

Toon Boom has gone to a subscription concept where you can pay a monthly fee to stay current. The ongoing monthly fee for their lowest-end product is $15 USD... so for the same price that is required to "rent" Harmony's introductory product for one month, one can buy a perpetual full license to MUVIZU on Cyber weekend! No comparison!

I've used Anime Studio for years and still occasionally dive in just for its super simple drawing tools. The notion of breaking apart a Muvizu character to then rig and animate in Anime Studio is a really clever idea. The lip sync might be a little different but otherwise you would be able to make the characters do any movement you choose. Good call, thanks for posting the sale and the tip for animating Muvizu characters!

Don't forget guys that most if not all of the features that 2D animation packages offer can be done for free with GIMP and the GIMP animation plugin GAP which is also extremely useful for sorting through and editing those TARGA files.

I currently use GAP 2.6 available HERE with GIMP 2.8. I recently took a look at GIMP 2.9 (unstable) to see what will be coming along with GIMP 2.10 (stable). Very impressed with the new engine!

My posts bear witness to the fact that I LOVE Muvizu..... but I also see the craft of animation as a system in which it is advantageous to have many tools in your toolbox, treating each of them as one of many components in a modular system.

Part of what makes MUVIZU such a useful component is its high cost/benefit ratio. There are other cool products out there with their own benefits, but most (if not all of them) are just crazy expensive. But every now and then, even the expensive programs go on sale, and for the next few days, that includes ANIME STUDIO PRO 11

It usually retails for $299 USD, but until Dec 1 they're selling it as a digital DL for $99 USD
http://my.smithmicro.com/anime-studio-pro.html?utm_source=smithmicro&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=animecybermonday&hq_e=el&hq_m=2495525&hq_l=5&hq_v=a28cb2cfcb

If you already have a previous version, or the lesser featured Debut 11, you can get it for even less as an upgrade.

Why should somebody who already owns MUVIZU be interested in Anime Studio Pro 11?

1) It can help fill in the blanks when you need that rare something Muvizu can't do

2) It's fairly easy to make screen shots of your characters & scenes and use them in ASPro11

3) I won't say its easy to learn... but I will say it uses a lot of the same principles you already know from MUVIZU, and there is a TON of online tutorials to help you get up to speed.

4) Let's face it, we're all software addicts and we like to buy new software that's on sale
