Hi everyone,
I've been experimenting with longer character scenes recently, and I ran into an issue that I didn't really notice in shorter 2D animation projects.
After a minute or two, the characters started feeling repetitive because they were looping the same idle poses and gestures. Even though the dialogue was different, the animation began to look robotic.
I spent some time trying different approaches, and what helped most was:
  • Creating several idle variations instead of using a single idle animation.
  • Mixing small gestures (head turns, hand movements, posture changes) between dialogue sections.
  • Avoiding perfectly timed repeated movements.
  • Adding short pauses before changing gestures so the motion feels more natural.
After making those changes, the scenes looked much more believable.
I'm curious how other Muvizu users handle this.
  • Do you create multiple idle animations for each character?
  • Do you randomize gestures?
  • Or do you have another workflow for making conversations feel more natural?
I'd love to hear how everyone approaches this, especially for longer character animation sequences.
