Posts: 92 		Hi - I see that my PC really becomes sluggish & needs to reboot whenever I render or make a video; also some scenes seem to take forever to load...I've read the recommended specs here: https://www.muvizu.com/Wiki/wiki/52/troubleshooting-recommended-computer-specifications - but unfortunately, I'm not a true geek :0).


Below are my PC's specs, could anyone be kind enough to recommend what I can do to significantly increase my PCs performace so that I don't have to reboot, can load or render scenes faster, etc?


My PC specs:
- Win 8.1 64 bit
- Processor: AMD A10-6700 APU with Radeon HD Graphics 3.70 GHz
- RAM: 8G
- Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 630
- DirectX vers 11

Posts: 975 		I used to think that it was all in the graphics card, but recently I've noticed my CPU takes a bit of a beasting as well. I'm also fairly sure that since we've had the updates with layers the whole thing takes more resource (which is fair enough - you don't get anything for nothing). I've tried running the whole thing off SSD but it made surprisingly little difference.

Don't forget the top tip about copying away your fresh install and then regularly reverting back to it to maintain the speed of set loading.

So I would predict it's mainly the video card - http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GT+630 - it's not looking that quick. Upgrading the CPU may also help, but it's harder.

The question now becomes, what models would I need to upgrade to make a noticeable difference? Is there a huge difference to spend $800 for a top of the line GTX 980 or $250 for the GeForce GTX 680 (which is the next level of upgrade from my GT 630 in the G3D mark top 10)?

The first thing I noticed is that you have an APU (Which is a processor built to focus on the graphics) and a graphics card which is an unusual combination since half the APU will be rendered useless when you use your GPU (Graphics card) (That's as far as my understand goes anyway). So if you plan to upgrade your whole PC in the future, keep this in mind

However, your CPU (processor) seems pretty good in terms of cores and clock speed.

Onto the GPU which is the main problem here:
Muvizu is very reliant on the GPU since it's based on the Unreal game engine. By no means do you have to run out and buy a top of the range Titan X or anything, but you need something with a bit more oomph. The list on the benchmark site is just showing your card in comparison to the most popular cards, rather than giving you a representation of what's the next step.

Personally I have an AMD HD7770 2GB (Or R7 250X as the re-branded model is called) which works perfectly well.

I've found that the CPU is used when opening your sets and the GPU is used for everything else.

Oh an additional note - the only way to really increase the loading times for sets is probably to get an SSD, a better CPU (You'll have to change motherboard for this), or both.

I actually tried that MrDrWho and it made no difference. It's not the reading off the disk it's the displaying which seems to hold things up, so I think it's pretty much GPU all the way.

Posts: 477 		Night and day, that's how! My old version ran at 24 FPS and the beta versions at a pitiful 9 FPS. With the new cards they're up to 55 FPS! I never knew the program was supposed to look so smooth! Thanks again for the advice.

Laptops don't have the same expandibily as desktops especially regarding CPUs and GPUs. Your two options are either buying a new laptop or upgrading/buying a desktop PC.
Personally I'd suggest the desktop option, since there's a bit more room to upgrade if you don't mind giving up a bit of portability.

To help ease the lag on your current laptop you could press f12 to disable lighting.
