But yes, Muvizu is certainly one of the very few low cost pieces of animation software.

I've played around with it a couple of times but I prefer Muvizu. You can have a look on YouTube for some films made with it, I believe there are thousands.

I had a really good look at this a couple of years ago when Muvizu was "resting" and I concluded that it has tremendous potential, but would mean that instead of 5-6 years to make my film would probably take the rest of my life. Having complete control over your characters movements is great, but choice=time. Sometimes restrictions are good.

Also when you see what people are creating there's some great animation, but not sure whether you can have different characters or even sets. After a quick Google the set issue may have been cracked by now, but the characters are almost always the same and at the time that was that.

Also most of the output is a bit "shooty" for what I was trying to achieve.

It's the one to watch though - the output is far superior to the standard "uncanny valley" output of iClone (IMHO - calm down iCloners ).

That's one way to put it, I suppose

I agree completely! It isn't hard for me to get bogged down in option paralysis and learning curves.
Part of what I love about Muvizu is :

1) it provides a logical and reasonably consistent way of doing things, which is pretty easy to grasp and use

2) it is highly modifiable, but not to the extent that it introduces major complexity to the learning curve

3) in areas where Muvizu lacks power, there are other tools available to fill in the blanks. Hit Film, for example... and other animation products that can be animated at whatever degree of precision you might need (as long as you film that scene without moving the camera)

In my opinion one of the determinants of a well-designed product is an abundance of completed projects by its users. Products that aren't easy to use tend to have forums that host little more than demo projects of a few minutes, because it's too much hassle to do more than that.

One of the first things that caught my eye here is the large number of full-blown video stories that are excellent! When you don't have to spend as much time making the visual details happen, you can think at a higher level and create better stories.

"Directing", as opposed to "animating"

Smith Micro/Anime Studio/Moho announced their latest upgrade opportunity today. I mention it here for purposes of comparison.

They want $199 USD to upgrade from last years version! ($399 for full purchase) This upgrade adds minimal new content and features.

If I bought everything that Muvizu added to the store this year, it would add up to far less than $199 USD, and I'm guessing it would be more useful stuff.

I find Muvizu far easier to use, and I have to wonder why they have priced it so low in comparison to similar products. I would guess that its because they want to make entry affordable, then use store sales to generate income in a steady ongoing stream. But if that's the plan, I'd expect to see new products being introduced all the time.

to Muvizu decision-makers: You are sitting on a cash cow here... all you need is to put items in the store that people want at prices that justify your development costs and money will start to flow. With a clear demand for quadrapeds and no demand for VR, I don't understand the decision to devote resources in a direction where the demand is small while neglecting development for ideas that have strong user appeal.

There is Moviestorm which is interesting (but not perfect) for animations. It's a bit like old machinima "The Movies". Cool

Does that mean you would have to pay $399 for it if you are not upgrading?

that's my understanding. Yes. I think that's wayy too much for an upgrade. So I guess this is where I draw the line with Smith Micro. There are thousands of their users who would update faithfully for years at $99 per year. Many of them will drop out at this price, and they'll actually make less money than they made at $99
