How do you get a character to stand holding a cup in their hand and not have it dangling at their side?

Also, how can you place balls on the pool table without them floating above it?

Hi,

Have you tried pose 5 of gangsta? After you directed the action, he holds that position. The balls you can try with keyframing, then the collision is disabled.

Good luck,

Don't use Muvizu's pool table, use an imported one with collision removed. Muvizu assets love collision unfortunately...

And you could use my arms (with a cup added) and have it positioned or attached to the character.

I didn't realise that about the keyframing Ikes, thanks yet again! And the Pose 5 might work OK in my situation too

Yes, it is a sad reflection of the pointlessness of the physics that even Muvizu can't make props that work with it. But yes I shall try using your arms (the idea of which is yet another indication of your MMG (Mad Muvizu Genius)

Cheers!

a fairly new option when you need a particular pose (now that we have the OBJ models for many characters) is to edit one of the models into whatever pose you need, color it to match the character in your scene, then remove the head.

The newer characters can be made invisible except for their heads... so you could attach the model as hat or necklace, reposition it, and it would hold whatever pose you need while providing a "living" head that can engage in conversation.

Hello Pat, can you tell me what are the OBJ models you are talking about?

I also need a character to hold the smartphone texting, and a character giving something to another character.

Thank you

Sneaky! And one to remember for another day, as I have to use one of the potato heads for this scene.
Thanks

Wow, now there is even more stuff to try once my contest entry is finished. Making a new body with Ziggy's arms and then using it as a necklace on an invisible body. That sounds like the advanced lessons. Thanks for sharing this everyone.

And, when you use the hands, what you do with the character real hand?

I can not make transparent parts of the body separated, when I try it's all done invisibly...I guess I am lost

There's no tutorial because we only recently worked out how to do this. You cannot turn parts of a character invisible if they are the 'potato heads', only the hero types (Mandy, Rosie, Sinister, Heroine and Beefy). You have to be creative with your camera angles to hide the fact that you are using dummy hands, like here :

His existing right arm is down by his side. You can't get rid of his existing arm, but you can hide it.

I am sorry, I have one more question,
how you do to put the sleeve? and the same color,
how you do to grab the phone ?,
and that phone is not on the Muvizu assets, where can I take it from?

I need the character to grab a smart phone, like texting, for a video

Thank you for all your help, Pat and you are my mentors, I owe you a lot...

In the SOURCE folder (of the arm you're using) there are TGA files - these are what colour the arm. There is a PSD file there too - this contains the UV map to help you to make your own TGA, to change the arm to your needs (using Photoshop or similar).

The phone in the picture is one I downloaded from Sketchup's 3D Warehouse - this topic (downloading and importing models using Sketchup) has many many pages already written about it.

To combine the hand and the phone, I used blender to join them, then exported that as an FBX file for import into Muvizu. I am going to do a set of hands for mobile phone use (it's on the Arm Yourself list) but I'm busy with other things right now. I'll make sure to do those next though, since it is a very commonly used pose these days.

Actually, now that I remember, no I didn't do that - I was going to, but the phone model gave me problems so I just positioned the handset and arm inside Muvizu, they aren't joined together in any way (neither is the cord, that's separate as well). And I took pity on your plight, and I will do the arms for a mobile phone today or tomorrow.

Maybe one day I will understand all this. You use a PSD file? I am not sure what that is yet. You use a Sketchup version unless they are all called that, Blender, and a photo editing program like Photoshop and Gimp or another. Oh my gosh. I still can not figure out how to change the selections tools in Gimp without shutting it down and starting over. I feel doomed. Even YouTube cannot seem to simply my Gimp experience.

I think I will have to just rely on what others can make if I ever get that far.

Good Luck Tony.

It's just a picture file (like JPG or BMP) but it supports multiple layers within the file, unlike normal picture files. In this case one of the layers is the colour of the arm, and another is the UV layout of the model (so you know where to paint). You would export it from Photoshop (or Gimp or whatever) as a normal picture file, then use that as the texture for the model inside Muvizu. Make more sense now? Probably not, but I tried

also, for people who don't use 3D modelling software... remember you can simulate a lot of things with regular ol' 2D graphic on a backdrop. I often google what I want ("arm holding cell phone") > right click > save as graphic file

Then I use the masking tool in my graphics program to protect what I want to keep while deleting everything else to a transparent background. > save as PNG, not as JPG (otherwise you'll lose the transparency)

Put the graphic on a backdrop, and since the background is transparent, you won't see anything but the arm and cell phone

set the physics of the backdrop to make it float... that way you can size it and position it anywhere it needs to be in your scene.

For speed, nothing beats using 2d graphics on a backdrop. (except maybe using props that already exist... but it's definitely faster than creating your own 3d objects. )

If you can draw, then the sky is the limit, because then you can make any 2d graphic you'll ever need!
