Posts: 16 		Hi, can someone please make a video that shows how to record dialog between two characters. There is basic dialog tut but it shows imported dialog. I have tried and tried but I cannot get two simple characters to talk. This is silly, how can you expect someone to use this software if every step if a chore? Please...a step by step video...of how to RECORD a converstation between two people.

Posts: 520 		You need to Prepare an audio track then fill it with the sound either by importing or recording.

So Click on "Prepare".
Choose "Audio"
Choose "New"
Then press "Edit" and you will see "Import" and "Record" options.

I agree that the dialog system is awkward. But why do you want to record it inside muvizu? If you can record there, you can record in audacity. I think the record option is only really there for only one talking character, because everything has to be in one take. If you want to record a conversation, you have to record both characters right in one take, if you or the other make a mistake, you have to record it all again. A character can only have one audio track assigned to it. If you record it per character in 2 separate tracks, you need to have the timing right. You cannot adjust timing on the timeline in muvizu.

If you record it in audacity (or any audio recorder) you have much more control over it. You can shift parts, re-record a part, ajust timing, etc.

You can have a conversation in muvizu in 2 ways:
  • one audio file with both characters talking in turn.
  • or a separate file for each character.
With separated files, you still have to keep (record) the silence when the other character talks. It's just what method you prefer.

Posts: 16 		Thank you all so much for your kind help. Yes I'm going to start using audacity for my sound recording and see how that goes. I appreciate youir time ya'll and I'm off on another animation quest...for dialog!

Posts: 1738 		you raise a good point, Danny... it's enough of a recurring question that a tutorial on how to create dialog with audacity would be worth somebody's time. If I weren't so dang busy working on my son's rental house, I'd make one. Maybe if its still an issue months from now when his house is done, I'll pursue the idea.
