I created a character and imported a cigarette as an attachment which I positioned in his mouth and started directing. Then I decided I needed to move the position of the cigarette slightly, however I cannot for the love of me select the cigarette to move it. Whatever I try selects the entire actor. Can you not edit attachment positions after you have started directing?

go, view- show scene window, and select items there to highlight for editing etc in the scene.

I tried that as well, but sadly it appears that attachments don't show in that window.

When you go to the section in the character edit menu where you attached the cigarette. There should be a little window on the bottom right of your screen with sliders to adjust the position and rotation of the attachment.

Nope, nowhere to be seen I'm afraid.
It looks like you can only change an attachments position before you save the movie. Once you have done that if you reopen the movie you can't access the attachment again. Well, I can't anyway.
Also I notice that if you import an object that you created as a .FBX into the set, it doesn't appear in the Scene window. Is this a known bug?

MrDrWho's response is correct, but let me restate what he already said in different words.

You seem to be trying to select the attachment by clicking on it, as you might do for any other object. But once an object is attached to a character, it isn't treated as a separate object any more. Rather, it is treated like one of the character's attributes (selected in the same way that a hat or hair would be selected... through the right click character edit process)

Since there is no cigarette attachment point, you must have used some other feature (like beard or nose or hat) to load your model . Whichever one you used, if you go back to that feature in the edit menu, the slider menu that MrDrWho mentioned will then appear... and the position of an attachment is controlled by moving those sliders.

Nope, I was selecting the "fake beard" (which is where I had attached the cigaratte). But the window refused to appear again after I closed it the first time (I wonder if that was the problem).
However I have recreated the character and attached a different prop and that is working as expected, so it must have been some other archane issue.
I still find it strange though, that if you create an object by importing it, it doesn't show up in the Scene view. Not a showstopper - unless your prop is tiny and hard to find - but not the behaviour I would expect ; since you could fill a scene with dozens of your own props and it would show nothing.

The scene window doesn't show objects attached to characters. Also if you group disparate objects together they will not appear individually in the list, merely as "group".

There did used to be an issue that if you closed the edit screen on a character attachment it could be a challenge to get it back, but you could. I think you close the whole edit window or select a different attachment point or something - can't remember or recreate now.....

I've noticed that if I try to reopen the same character attribute window immediately after closing it, it won't reopen again until I open something else .

I've also noticed that if I have the Muvizu program MAXIMIZED, none of the windows will open! I have to run the program on the middle setting (neither minimized nor maximized) then stretch the window to fit my screen. Otherwise all sorts of dialog boxes just won't initialize!

Thanks for the info folks, I guess I'll just add it to the list of Muvizu "gotchas".
BTW the issue with the Scene window was not about attached items - just set objects that I had added as FBX imports. I can reproduce it at will.

Belay that last report. This morning I tried to start Muvizu and got a weird error message about there not being "enough quota available to process the command". I killed the process and restarted Muvizu and now the FBX file DOES show up in the scene window. Go figure!
