Thanks again MrDrWho. My last pc that I had when I made my animation was a HP Pavilion I seem to remember and it worked fine, though rendering was a bit slow I guess. I shall take a shopping list of all of your suggestions to Currys and see what they will try and flog me!

Posts: 2220 		Something I'd like to add if you read this before you go to Currys:
You will notice a massive improvement on the daily operation of a computer if you buy one with a Solid State Drive (SSD) rather than a standard spinning Hard Disk Drive (HDD) because loading times will be faster when opening programs and files. If they don't have any SSD computers on offer, try to avoid disks with speeds of 5400RPM and below because your computer will feel sluggish when booting up and loading programs. (More so as time goes on)

Posts: 35 		My self-assembled computer has lasted several years and I suspect will last many more. Luckily a lot of the parts can be carried forward on future rebuilds as it has in the past. For example, when the last motherboard died I could still use the case, power supply, drives, BD burner, the old speakers and such.

I added an SSD drive for C: Bought two 2 TB storage drives so I could run RAID and relegated the old drive to a third spot but only because I like to spend money. Also updated the video card even though I likely never taxed the old one but read recommendations on forums. Ha.

Even though you can't buy much from two years ago I don't feel that tech has advanced that far. Super video cards are for gamers and render farms. Middle of the road and budget should suffice for most.

My best savings was getting a cheap 720p 32" TV for my monitor. Best thing I ever did for my aging eyes. I'm sure the 1080's are cheap by now, as well, since that was two years ago.

I bought my PC and monitor in early 2014 and the prices don't really seem to have changed. Parts have got better for the money, but a £500 PC today will perform as well on current software as a £500 PC 2 years ago will have performed with software of that time.

Posts: 1738 		I just got back from buying a computer for my daughter. She wants to play WorldOfWarCraft on it, which doesn't have terribly high hardware requirements. We found a computer with an I-7 CPU on sale locally, but it only has on board graphics. Given the sale price we can add a graphics card later if the game lags. 99% of the time she'll be watching anime videos, so it's probably already overkill.

I was getting ready to sink about $2,000 into my system, but after reading some articles I decided to start with a SSD and see if that speeds things up enough that I don't need to keep spending money.

Posts: 113 		I've seen in this forum and muvizu chat many complains about computer specs. Some users think they could run Muvizu without problems using the minimal specs presented in wiki. They must be aware that those minimal specs are not enough for big productions like some of gallery best movies. This is a game and like all 3d games the best is always the correct choice. We need a good processor and graphic card and plenty RAM amount in order to run this software smoothly. Even so surprises come up without warning. In my honest opinion common laptops are not good enough. Top laptops are expensive and not accessible to ordinary mortals. Desktops are cheaper spec by spec and produce the best results I ever saw.
Minimal specs work for simple productions with a high dose of patience, enthusiasm and tolerance. Importing more and more models, trying to make a splendorous asset, full of diversity, beauty and compositum need more than minimal specs.
Trying muvizu is one think evolve on it needs different hardware approach. Muvizu price is very good although packed with some bugs. Hardware is another story.

It seems to be fine and I don't expect to be producing any big productions. Having had another Pavilion a couple of years ago (and selling it at some loss!) as well as having an apple MacBook Air for everyday use, I couldn't justify spending much more on a pc.

I think it will be OK although AMD processors are not so exuberant as Intel ones.
