Blender 2.49 ASE Export Tips n Tricks For those who want to get a grounding in Blender, here's 3 of the best sites. They deal with Blender 2.53, but its really easy to import your objects back to 2.49... Literally head to 'Append or Link' in the 'file' drop down in 2.49.

Blender 2.49 ASE Export Tips n Tricks Quick tips for those who wish to use the brilliant open-source 3D modelling and animation package for object and scenery creation (Its free, has no limitations compared to educational or demo software, and really gives a great grounding for those interested in CG) ::

First grab a copy of Blender 2.49. Blender 2.53, due to its new API, can't be used to export ASE files as yet, but I'm sure some Unreal loving Python junkie will make it happen soon.

Download Blender from here ::

Download the ASE exporter from here ::

http://www.katsbits.com/files/ase/goofosASE-2.44v0.6.10b_9sept07.zip

Extract the contents of the zip and place the '.py' file in your blender/scripts folder.

For the plugin to show in the export file drop-down, you need to refresh/update Blenders menus. Open the 'Scripts Window', and next to the python snake logo click 'Scripts'. Click on 'Update Menus' at the top of the menu stack. All done. When you go to the export file menu you'll find 'ACSII Scene(.ase)' waiting to be used.

One thing to take into account, probably the most important thing when exporting to Muvizu, is the scale of your intended object. Once your done modelling, its best to scale the object up by a factor of 10 or 100. I presume the developers are Maya users (12 years of it here for various companies ) so the scale factor should be 100 so your object matches Maya's units.

When Exporting, make sure you have your intended model selected, leave the settings in the pop-up window as default, unless you want hard edges on your object then un-highlight 'VertGr. as Smooth'. All done.

If you find, that once imported into Muvizu, your object has no texture, open the ASE file in Wordpad and look for the line starting with *BITMAP. This contains the path to your texture.. check to make sure they match, and adjust if needs be. (im linux user when it comes to work and modelling so have to adjust the path so it's happy in Windoze)

hope this is helpful to those interested in Blender.
